Are washing machine motor brushes critical?
My zanussi washer dryer stops in the middle of a wash, and just won't budge after about 12 mins. There are no fault codes showing on the machine. I have removed and looked at the motor carbon brushes and noticed that they only have about 6mm left on each brush...Can this stop the motor from continuing the cycle? It won't do a spin cycle either, and all pipes and pumps are clear of blockages.
It would appear that american washing machines are different from europian ones...yes the motors have brushes and they are front loaders.
First off I didn't know Zanussi made wash machines, and secondly, no, the brushes should be perfectly fine, unless the armature itself is bad. If at all possible, put the motor back together, install the brushes properly, hook up the motor with a test cord and test run it on the bench. If there is a lot of sparking and a fire tail around the armature then it's no good and is probably the cause of the problems.
