She did not win the Vice President’s chair, yet she remains in the headlines. What is it about Governor Sarah Palin that holds the fascination of the news media? What threat does she pose that would inspire such obsession; to the point even of networks like MSNBC broadcasting an unvetted and false report in a frantic rush for more breaking news on Palin?
Sarah Palin represents a woman who has risen in politics battling issues like government corruption, old boys’ networks and corporate greed. It doesn’t appear as if she has spent the last thirty years plotting her rise to power, and she didn’t have the traditional political powerhouses behind her ensuring her success. She obviously has not been groomed for politics. She is not well-educated, but then only 42% of Congress holds law degrees and only six of the 43 US Presidents held law degrees
She has not revealed that she has a superior knowledge of the dictionary. Her unscripted answers appear to ramble, especially when she is multi-tasking during an interview. However millions of Americans were willing to elevate her to the number two position in the United States. And the reason is simple: she appeared approachable, understanding of the plight of everyday people, and was willing to fight for the people no matter how politically incorrect the circumstances. She wasn’t a person who would back down from an issue and she wasn’t afraid to take on the big guys.
I would like to think it was purely politics which played a role in the media’s persecution of Sarah Palin. No one on the Republican ticket would have been viewed in a favorable light by the mainstream media. What is unfortunate is the lack of support for someone who is an inspiration for everyone out there who has ever dreamed of standing up for what is right, and who holds the courage to fight against the Goliaths when armed with nothing more than conviction.
