Yet again the Statesman comes to the aid of their chosen mayor of the City of Eagle. Why is it that the editorial board feels as if they have to repeatedly step in to defend him? Why is it that Bandy is engaging in so many controversial acts in the first place? Bandy’s budget is tax and spend. There is no defense to that. As much as the Statesman editorial board would like everyone to think that this difference in opinions on the budget is about me and the election, it is about the conservative principles that I and many others in Eagle represent, and that Mayor Bandy does not. It is about a mayor interfering in Council business and disrupting council meetings. It is about a mayor who refuses to listen to the residents of the city he represents.
For the record – when I post, which I rarely do on the Statesman comments, I use my real name. I put no credibility behind anyone who posts anonymously.

always enjoy reading your thoughts and comments. In my opinion, it not so much about conservative principals as it is about whats right and whats wrong, as we all aware conservative principals don’t mean much anymore.
We need a government that is responsible, accountable and transparent before any particular political ideology sticks its ugly head in to the mess. There is such a thing a good government and it comes from good people who care not just a political party.
I voted for you sorry it didn’t work out, I am very disappointing in our city government even those who ran with you. I certainly hope these events over the past year will get our neighbors involved in voting and rid our government of the entitlement group of old school revolving politicians that are in control. I wish you success in your efforts.
Saundra’s Reply: Hi Jeff. I wrote in an earlier post my definition of conservative. When I use the term I mean a fiscally responsible conservatism. This is a principle that both sides of the political isle should embrace.

Letter to the Editor: Idaho Statesman – I doubt this will be published!
I am a regular reader of the Idaho Statesman on-line. I reside in St. Louis, MO and, I am proud to say, the mother of Saundra McDavid. We often visit Eagle and find it to be a lovely community. Like Boise, St. Louis has one major newspaper. Never in all my years of reading our St. Louis paper have I seen the paper’s editorial board comment, much less defend, on the line item details of our many municipalities budget as yours did (August 8 Our View: Eagle’s cost-cutting measures make little sense). I also find it incredible that your editorial board believes it is appropriate to defend and justify a property tax increase in the same article used to defend retention of staff based on potential workload in the future. To me this is nothing more than interfering in local politics and being the only major newspaper in town that is disturbing. Who, if not you, will offer readers an unbiased and objective assessment of the actions of their local Government?
It appears the Eagle Mayoral campaign continues in the Idaho Statesman. Endorsements of candidates are one thing while campaigning for a specific candidate is another. I spent two weeks with my daughter and her family during the mayoral runoff and am aware that you not only supported Phil Bandy you actively campaigned for him through the newspapers many articles and always favorable comments. On the other hand, very few positive articles and comments were written about Saundra McDavid. I witnessed the negative push polling by a political action group, the actual lies printed in the Statesman’s letters to the editor, the un-proven and false innuendos about Saundra McDavid in your articles, and misinformation spread through telephone calls paid for by special interest groups. I left thinking that Eagle’s political process was as ugly, dishonest, and mean spirited as cities 10 times it’s size. Before that visit I believed Boise and Eagle provided a friendly and safe environment generally associated with small cities and I was happy my grandchildren lived in such a place. I’m not so sure of that anymore.
It seems you are attempting to discredit two newly elected or appointed Eagle City Councilmen and, indirectly, Saundra McDavid and all those many Eagle residents who voted for her. The last statement in this article makes that very obvious “This shouldn’t be about personalities, but about pragmatism. The current budget proposal positions Eagle for the future”. This is an actual judgment on the merits of a specific city’s budget and further endorsement of Phil Bandy, that city’s mayor. I doubt you would take that position if this was a corporation attempting to justify a bloated staff on potential workload in the future. How does your editorial board have that level of knowledge on the details of one specific city’s budget and have you printed editorials like this on the budget decisions of other small cities in your distribution area?
My final question – who serves on your editorial board and what connection do they have to Eagle’s politicians. I could not find board member information on your web-site.
Why do I have an interest in what you print in your newspaper – you influence the environment where my grandchildren live.
Mary T. McDavid
