How much pressure could this container hold .059 inch aluminum tube?
I am attempting to make a pressure vessel that needs to contain about 50psi at the absolute maximum, but needs to fail at or before 10,000psi (it's a barrel part for an air rifle, and for legal reasons it cannot be useful for a real firearm), The material I want to use is 6061 aluminum tube, with a one inch outer diameter, and 0.059 inch walls, would it work? The aluminum would have a 43,000 psi tensile strength, 38,000 psi yield strength, and 30,000 psi shear strength?
A pipe can generally be considered a thin walled pressure vessel. So, stress = pr/t, where p is pressure, r is radius, t is thickness

So, for the 43ksi minimum UTS, burst is 5074 psi. For the 38ksi yield, burst is 4484. Now, legally, I'm not sure what the definition of burst is. However, the material is likely over the 43ksi specified minimum ultimate tensile strength. Not likely to be twice the strength tho.
This is on the lower end of t to diameter ratio, so more appropriate to use thick walled cylinder. Results will be pretty close though.
Naturally, this is not an engineering opinion. You need to check with a professional engineer to get a definitive answer considering the strengths off the appropriate material specification and material certs.
